It's no wonder people find it a great place to live with a lively and friendly community, great schools, delicious  restaurants and super convenient location.  Located just 8 miles  northwest of Boston, living in Arlington makes an easy commute along Route 2, Route 128, Interstates 93 & 95, or hop on the red line at Alewife station.

Our Historic Community

Arlington was settled in 1635 as part of Cambridge, it was known as Menotomy (from an Algonquian word meaning “swift waters”) until separately incorporated as West Cambridge in 1807. Arlington remains proud of its history, even as it has grown into a thoroughly modern community. The birthplace of Uncle Sam, the location of the first public children's library, and the site of most of the fighting when the British marched through in 1775.
